Handstands are a very functional aspect of training and should be introduced early on. Pressing strength says nothing about balance. Comfort in a inverted position only develops by being inverted.

Nicole Holstrom of CrossFit Central wrote this article about Jeremy Thiel's struggle with a wheat allergy.
Over seven years ago, Jeremy Thiel, owner and CoFounder of CrossFit Central, found himself consistently falling asleep directly after meals. Though he was an athlete and very active, Jeremy was battling an intense state of lethargy. In college he was unable to stay awake in class, his legs often felt heavy, and after meals he would become extremely nauseous. The battle between his body and mind disrupted his daily tasks. Jeremy would run fitness camps in the morning, eat lunch after training, and would then fall asleep for a couple of hours. For an active, seemingly healthy person this can be devastating. The inability to stay focused in class, falling asleep uncontrollably, and not having a source to understand what could be wrong with him lead to frustration and signs of depression. Jeremy visited several doctors over the course of a few years who could not find anything wrong with him. He endured many tests and even CAT scans to no avail. Continue Reading Here.Enlarge image

Rest Day!
A wagoneer was driving his team along a muddy lane with a full load behind them, when the wheels of his wagon sank so deep in the mire that no efforts of his horses could move them. As he stood there, looking helplessly on, and calling loudly at intervals upon Hercules for assistance, the god himself appeared, and said to him, "Put your shoulder to the wheel, man, and goad on your horses, and then you may call on Hercules to assist you. If you won't lift a finger to help yourself, you can't expect Hercules or any one else to come to your aid."
Heaven helps those who help themselves.

A good article written by the folks at CrossFit Watertown:
Ever play softball? There are three types of outfielders in softball, and I don't mean right fielder, center fielder, and left fielder. You can’t tell the type of outfielder by where they stand: it's what's in their mind that matters. The same standard applies to every CrossFitter but, first, to understand this concept, let's go mentally to the softball field . . .

Skip Chase of Mt.Baker CrossFit wrote an article entitled "The Poisoning of America for Profit" the article starts off:
Yummy, aren't they? or are they? What do these products have in common? The box on the left is a 'treat' for our toddlers...the other products are found in almost every refrigerator in this country.
Ok....here I go....Hi, my name is Skip and I am a sugarholic!
I've written that statement on other posts on this blog. I am going to keep saying it. AMERICA IS ADDICTED TO SUGAR!!!!

So That's What I Remind Me Of
When I consider men of golden talents, I'm delighted, in my introverted way,
To discover, as I'm drawing up the balance, How much we have in common, I and they.
Like Burns, I have a weakness for the bottle, Like Shakespeare, little Latin and less Greek;
I bite my fingernails like Aristotle; Like Thackeray, I have a snobbish streak.
I'm afflicted with the vanity of Byron, I've inherited the spitefulness of Pope;
Like Petrarch, I'm a sucker for a siren, Like Milton, I've a tendency to mope.
My spelling is suggestive of a Chaucer; Like Johnson, well, I do not wish to die
(I also drink my coffee from the saucer); And if Goldsmith was a parrot, so am I,
Like Villon, I have debits by the carload, Like Swineburn, I'm afraid I need a nurse;
By my dicing is Christopher out-Marlowed, And I dream as much as Coleridge, only worse.
In comparison with men of golden talents, I am a man of talent ought to be;
I resemble every genius in his vice, however heinous- Yet I write so much like me.
